UNION COUNTY, N.C. — The Union County Sheriff's Office said an assault reportedly caused by a student left two teachers with injuries late Thursday morning.

Deputies said it happened shortly after 10 a.m. at Parkwood High School in Monroe . The on-campus Student Resource Officer responded quickly and took the female student into custody.

The sheriff's office said its initial investigation led them to find that the student attacked one teacher, leaving that teacher with multiple cuts and facial markings. Another teacher tried to intervene but was also left with facial and head injuries.

The SRO is still investigating and will pursue charges if deemed appropriate. The sheriff's office noted that Union County Public Schools is also conducting its own investigation to determine appropriate
