CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Seventy names were read aloud at a Charlotte memorial ceremony, each representing a life lost to domestic violence. Eunice Eaddy's name wasn't among them, but only because she survived.

"I could have been dead numerous times," Eaddy said.

Eaddy said each name called felt like a weight in her chest and served as a reminder of what it took her 10 years to escape. She was shot on two separate occasions by her abuser — once the first time, and eight times the second.

"I got shot on two different occasions, the first time it was one time and the second time it was eight times," Eaddy said.

Eaddy said she lived in the same darkness as the victims being honored. The only difference, she said, is that she made it out.
