SPOKANE, Wash. — 20-year-old Caleb Hulings will serve no prison time for a 2023 Spokane murder after taking a plea agreement to get credit for nearly two years already served.
Hulings pleaded guilty to manslaughter under an Alford plea, meaning he acknowledged that a jury had enough evidence to likely find him guilty, but maintains that he did not commit the crime.
He was originally charged with second-degree murder alongside his mother for the murder of 76-year-old Alvin Gallegos. In March 2025, a Spokane County judge ruled that the two would have separate trials if they went to trial, due to antagonistic and mutually exclusive defenses.
According to court documents, Gallegos was found in his South Hill apartment in April of 2023 with multiple stab wounds to his neck and head. Poli
