WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem Police Department is warning residents to exercise caution as icy roads, freezing temperatures, and reduced visibility make travel hazardous amid a winter system that could bring snow.

The department said winter weather significantly increases the risk of traffic crashes and other safety incidents, urging drivers to prepare thoroughly and follow established safety practices.

Motorists are advised to reduce speed, increase following distances, and ensure full visibility by clearing all windows, mirrors, and lights of snow, ice, or frost before traveling. Vehicle inspections are also recommended, including checking tire pressure, fluid levels, wipers, and battery condition.
