LEXINGTON, S.C. (WIS) - Rocky Creek Elementary School has been awarded the Special Olympics “National Unified Champion” banner, becoming the fifth South Carolina school to receive the recognition this year.
The award recognizes schools that integrate programs for students of all abilities and promote inclusion throughout their campus.
Third-grader Diego Corona-Lemus shared the positive mantra that reflects the school’s approach.
“I am smart, I am kind, I am loved, I can do hard things,” Corona Lemus said.
The road to national recognition took years of schoolwide effort to meet the criteria for the Special Olympics designation.
Teacher Paige Bowles said the school worked to create an inclusive environment for all students.
