Phoenix City Council on Wednesday approved $2,375,000 of federal coronavirus relief funds to be spent on two housing projects aimed at helping families and seniors out of homelessness.

“These are dollars that we are using to reduce homelessness and improve housing stability,” Councilmember Kesha Hodge Washington said ahead of the council’s 8-0 vote to approve the funding on Wednesday.

Salvation Army emergency shelter

Most of the funding, $2 million, was allocated to The Salvation Army’s new residential building being added to the nonprofit’s emergency shelter designed for families at The Salvation Army Herberger Campus at 2707 E. Van Buren St.
