BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Property owners within the city limits of Baton Rouge are seeing higher taxes this year, prompting an influx of calls to the East Baton Rouge Parish Assessor’s Office.
Brian Wilson, the EBR Assessor, said many residents are confused about the increases, which stem from multiple factors.
“The tax for the Baton Rouge fire department was passed in ’24, and they forget about sometimes, and so it doesn’t come into effect this year, and so they are confused, wondering what’s going on,” Wilson said. “For the most part, they understand.”
Wilson’s office reevaluates property values every four years. The most recent reevaluation was last year, meaning many property owners could have seen higher taxes from increased assessments.
