Tulane coach Jon Sumrall knows one thing is certain about the American Conference championship game against North Texas: a repeat of the careless offensive performance against Charlotte on Saturday will not cut it.

Quarterback Jake Retzlaff threw two interceptions and the Green Wave fumbled four times in the 27-0 victory. The Wave was fortunate to retain possession after three of the miscues — one of which bounced right to Sumrall.

“There’s no excuse for it,” Sumrall said. “We were way too loose with the ball last week. Two interceptions. Four on the ground. If we do that on Friday night, we’ll get our (butt) kicked. We will not be close.”
