The Florence Police Department has introduced a new initiative called the "Downtown Detail" to enhance safety in the downtown area.
The plan, which assigns two officers to patrol downtown on Friday and Saturday nights, aims to increase police visibility during the busiest times.
"There were some incidents that happened, that got out of hand and escalated and we thought a good proactive step is to put some officers down there for higher visibility and to kinda deescalate some of those situations," said Joshua Meza, public information officer for the Florence Police Department.
Meza explained that these nights are typically when the largest crowds gather, often leading to more significant issues.
