The federal judge overseeing the Archdiocese of New Orleans’ bankruptcy case said Friday she sees no major obstacles to her confirming a proposed $230 million settlement with more than 600 people who say they were sexually abused by clergy as children.
But she stopped short of confirming the deal, saying she needed more time to process the emotional testimony survivors delivered earlier this week.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Meredith Grabill told attorneys, survivors and other observers in her courtroom Thursday that she “didn’t see any impediments” to confirming the reorganization plan after a three-week trial that capped a five-and-a-half-year bankruptcy.
