During the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was happy to have settled the war between Rwanda and Congo.
Presidents Felix Tshisekedi of Congo and Paul Kagame of Rwanda signed a deal aimed at ending the conflict in eastern Congo and opening access to the region’s critical minerals.
"We're making peace all over the world, we're settling wars at levels that nobody's ever seen before, eight of them," Trump told the attendance of the Christmas tree lighting ceremony before adding "We're looking for one more: that's Russia, Ukraine, if that's possible, and I think we'll get there eventually."
Russian President Vladimir Putin says some proposals in a U.S. plan to end the war in Ukraine are unacceptable to the Kremlin, indicating in comments published Thursday that any deal is still some ways off. U.S. President Donald Trump has set in motion the most intense diplomatic push to stop the fighting since Russia launched the full-scale invasion of its neighbor nearly four years ago.
