ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A firefighter was trapped after a roof collapsed during a response to an overnight fire in south St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Fire Department, the fire was reported around 3:45 a.m. at a one-story building in the 2500 block of Ohio Avenue.

Crews arrived to heavy fire from the back of the building. Once inside, firefighters reported severe hoarding conditions.

The fire department says it had a team on the roof ready to make a vent when the roof collapsed.

Two firefighters were inside at the time of the collapse and got separated. One of them was trapped under roughly four feet of roof material, as well as heavy snow, and was unable to move.

“He was pinned, he couldn’t move any part of his body, his hands were pinned to his chest,” said St. Loui
