Preliminary preparations for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls have started in Uttarakhand. Interacting with the media persons the State’s chief electoral officer (CEO) BVRC Purushottam said that the Election Commission of India has so far conducted SIR of electoral rolls 11 times during the past years. He informed that in Uttarakhand, the SIR was conducted in the year 2003. Purushottam said that this year the SIR was conducted by the ECI in the first phase in Bihar and that it is underway in 12 other States. The objective of the exercise is to ensure that the name of every eligible voter is included in the electoral rolls, he said.
