CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Despite the cold temperatures Thursday evening, Governor Patrick Morrisey and residents from across the state joined together to kick off the holiday season and honor the two National Guard members who were shot last week in Washington, D.C.

Everyone gathered on the Capitol steps facing Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston to light the Christmas tree and enjoy performances by the Capitol High School band and choir, as well as the River City Youth Ballet.

Morrisey said it was wonderful to be part of such a special tradition, especially since it was his first time as governor lighting the Capitol Christmas tree.
