When senior running back Deon Lovelace-Pompey walks through the hallways at Clairton High School, there’s a constant reminder of the past football glories the Bears have enjoyed.
From 2009-2012, the Bears owned PIAA Class 1A, winning four consecutive championships. A feat only accomplished by Southern Columbia who won 1A from 2002-2006 and 2A from 2017-2023.
Lovelace-Pompey always wanted one to call his own.
“Every time I come to school, I look at the wall and see all the state championships we won,” Lovelace-Pompey said. “I look at them every day, and I want to get mine too.”
Lovelace-Pompey’s dream became a reality as the Bears defeated Bishop Guilfoyle 35-3 on Thursday to secure Clairton’s first PIAA 1A championship since former NFL wideout Tyler Boyd was running the show.
