ALBUQUERQUE — A town hall designed to give voters a firsthand account of how the next governor of New Mexico would tackle climate change received a chilly reception from all but one of the gubernatorial candidates Thursday.

Only former longtime Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima, the lesser known of the three candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for governor, showed up in person.

But even his participation was extemporaneous.

While all of the candidates were supposedly sent the questions ahead of time, giving them an opportunity to polish their responses, Miyagishima said he didn't receive them.

"I want to see if I can get extra credit because I didn't get the questions, but I'm going to [speak] off the cuff," he said, admitting he was "not 100% prepared."
