CANTON, Ohio — While the temperature read 21 degrees at kickoff Thursday night at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, a case could be made that Avon won its second OHSAA state football championship in much balmier conditions.
Avon coach Mike Elder looked back at his team’s Week 2 loss in Florida as one of the biggest determining factors in the Eagles’ ability to defend their state championship.
He looked back on it after they beat Cincinnati Anderson, 37-20 , on Thursday in Canton.
More than three months earlier, Avon (14-1) returned from Florida and a three-point loss with the awaiting challenge of Glenville, which also made it to Canton for this weekend’s state championships.
