As winter storms hit, SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company is reminding customers to keep natural gas meters and appliance vents clear of snow and ice to prevent hazards and service disruptions.
Heavy snow can block meters and vents, creating dangerous conditions, according to a community announcement. SEMCO advises customers to take these precautions:
Never allow snow or ice to cover your natural gas meter, pressure regulator, or appliance exhaust vents.
Use caution when shoveling, plowing, or snow blowing to avoid piling snow against meters or vents.
Remove soft snow gently with a broom or your hand — never use a shovel that could damage equipment.
Do not attempt to remove ice or use de-icer on meters or regulators. If your meter is covered in ice or frozen snow, call SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company
