India's aviation sector nearly collapsed as the civil aviation authority, in a rare flash of responsibility, told airlines that their pilots couldn't fly more hours than biology allows. Chaos followed. Within 48 hours: flights cancelled, passengers stranded , ministers sweating. By Thursday, the Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rule was "revisited", which is Delhispeak for quietly buried for now. Remember, the FDTL rules exist for passenger safety . This is the global norm. Except in India, norms are abnormal.
