Pubgoers face paying £10 a pint and £20 a burger in “boring” and “sanitised” chain venues as a result of Labour’s tax bombshell, industry experts have warned.

Hospitality bosses are in uproar after it emerged a new system to calculate business rates will leave them paying huge increases from next year.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves claimed Labour was backing the industry by scrapping the current 40 per cent discount for hospitality and leisure businesses, in favour of a lower relief for those with a rateable value below £500,000. New Feature
