An overnight fire at a residential building in Humboldt Park led to at least 10 people transported to hospitals, with a large firefighter response as crews worked to put out the flames.
The fire started in the basement of the building, at 1532 and 1534 N. Karlov St., Deputy District Chief Ernie Pinkston Jr. said at the scene. After emergency responders arrived, they found multiple residents self-evacuating as the fire began to spread to other floors.
According to Pinkston Jr., about 10 people were taken to hospitals due to the fire. One of the transports was an 81-year-old woman who in fair condition and being treated for smoke inhalation, the Chicago Police Department said.
Videos and photos from the scene show multiple firefighters in and around the building, with some windows broken.
