SHARON Five people are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross after a fire heavily damaged a home here Thursday evening.
The Sharon Fire Department was dispatched to 334 Prospect St. at approximately 6:02 p.m., according to Fire Chief Robert Fiscus. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy flames moving throughout the structure.
Firefighters worked to control the blaze and fully extinguished the fire in about one hour.
Fiscus said the property owner had insurance on the home, but the tenants did not have renters' insurance.
The Hermitage, Farrell, and Brookfield fire departments provided mutual aid, along with McGonigle Ambulance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
