Attorneys for Tufts PhD student Rümeysa Öztürk asked a federal judge in Boston to restore her student record in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement database so that she could return to teaching and research opportunities stripped from her since her arrest in March.
Öztürk‘s lawyers said in court on Thursday that despite Öztürk being back on campus since May, she has been denied the chance to participate in activities that would have been part of her graduate studies.
Attorneys are requesting that US District Judge Denise J. Casper issue a preliminary injunction to restore her record.
“The government continues to reach into her life, and prevent her from taking advantage of her educational program, cutting off career opportunities for her,” one of Öztürk‘s attorneys with the ACLU,
