GERMANTOWN, Md. — Around 20 people are displaced after a fire at a home Thursday evening.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to the fire around 6:50 p.m. on Curry Powder Lane off of Cinnamon Drive. When they arrived, they found the fire showing from an upstairs bedroom of a duplex.

Spokesperson Pete Piringer said around 75 firefighters responded to the home and were quickly able to extinguish the flames.

The fire began from a malfunctioning electronic device, Piringer said. The estimated damage is $350,000.

One family with three adults and two children living in the home and some neighbors are displaced. The family inside was alerted to the fire by smoke alarms and were able to evacuate safely. No one was injured.
