Netflix said Friday it has reached a deal worth US$72 billion to buy the film and streaming businesses of Warner Bros. Discovery.

The historic takeover would bring together the streaming giant and the Warner Bros. film studio, known for producing big-screen classics like Casablanca and Citizen Kane and franchises like the Harry Potter and DC comic movies. Netflix would also acquire Warner Bros.’ HBO Max catalogue, which includes popular shows such as Game of Thrones and The Sopranos .

The agreement was announced after Netflix emerged as the winner in a weeks-long bidding war involving rivals Comcast and Paramount Skydance.
