A woman has died following reports that a car has hit a pedestrian in County Durham . Durham Constabulary confirmed that the elderly woman, 83, died at the scene of the incident, which took place at around 7.15am in the Leadgate area.

Officers attended reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Second Street, Watling Bungalows. The victim was found to have suffered "significant" injuries - and despite the efforts of the emergency services she was pronounced dead at the scene.
