A driver has been injured following a serious two-vehicle collision in the heart of Chester-le-Street on Friday morning. The crash took place in North Burns in the County Durham town, and saw a huge emergency services response.

Durham Constabulary , North East Ambulance Service and th e Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service were all called to the scene. The incident is understood to have happened shortly before 10.53am.

Ambulance service figures confirmed two people received medical attention, though one was well enough to be discharged at the scene. The second patient - thought to have been driving one of the vehicles - was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham.
