KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knox County District Attorney's Office said a man accused of threatening to shoot his wife decided to plead guilty just two days into his trial.

Michael Lee Powell, 35, pled guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm, aggravated burglary, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and aggravated assault. The district attorney's office said Powell pled guilty after the victim testified and accepted a sentence of 20 years without parole.

Prosecutors said on Sept. 26, 2024, Knoxville police received a 911 call about a domestic disturbance on New York Avenue. Neighbors and firefighters saw Powell arguing and chasing the victim across the street.
