RAPID CITY, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons announced on Friday that a Kyle, South Dakota, man has been convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter after driving while intoxicated, which led to one death.
Kevin Hunter, 33, was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison, 3 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Hunter was indicted for Involuntary Manslaughter by a federal grand jury in July 2024 and pleaded guilty on September 2, 2025.
On May 15, 2024, near Kyle, South Dakota, Hunter drove while intoxicated, reaching speeds over 80 mph. He crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a van, killing a passenger.
He fled the scene and lied to investigators about his location that night.
Judge Camela C. Theeler sentenced
