NEW DELHI: A long-standing demand of train passengers is finally being met. The Railways has introduced new measures that will benefit elderly passengers and senior women. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that senior citizens and women will automatically receive preference for lower berths, even if they do not select the option while booking their tickets. This facility will also be extended to persons with disabilities and pregnant women.

Speaking in Parliament, the minister added that Vande Bharat trains will be equipped with wheelchair facilities in the first and last coaches, along with disabled-friendly toilets.
