A football pitch in Gateshead operated by a community club has been damaged by motorbikes, in a 'soul-destroying' blow for its volunteers . Between £5,000 and £10,000 has been spent on repairing the pitches to date, with everyone involved with Crawcrook United FFC, based in Ryton , devastated by the damage caused.

The pitches, on Barmoor Playing Field, where previously the property of Gateshead Council , but the club is in the process of an asset transfer which has seen responsibility for their maintenance move to the team of volunteers. Until the asset transfer process is complete, no additional funding for maintenance can be applied for, meaning the club has had to dip into
