The Dallas Cowboys were playing for much more than a 7-6-1 record against the Detroit Lions. A win and improvement to that record would have vastly improved their playoff chances. However, they are now 6-6-1, and that chance has now plummeted.

A big issue with being 6-6-1 is that the rest of the NFC is stacked with talented teams who are also vying for playoff position. The Wild Card teams alone boast impressive records.

In the seventh seed are the 9-4 San Francisco 49ers, sixth seed are the 8-3-1 Green Bay Packers, and fifth seed are the 9-3 Seattle Seahawks. All three teams have shown they can win games and are likely to move up or keep their playoff standing.

Above the 10th seed, 6-6-1 Cowboys are the ninth seed, 7-6 Carolina Panthers, and the eighth seed, 8-5 Lions.
