A stretch of chilly weather is gripping the region, with temperatures dipping below freezing in North Jersey Dec. 5 and another cold push expected early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologist Zach Cooper of the NWS said the area is not expected to break any temperature records, noting that upper single-digit lows are typical for this time of year in North Jersey, while far northern areas may see readings in the low teens.
“Today will be the coldest for Sussex and Morris this week,” Cooper said, adding that subfreezing temperatures will hold through the morning.
A slow warmup is expected over the weekend though Cooper cautioned that “warm is a relative term.” Highs are forecast to climb into the low 40s on Dec. 6 and 7.
