A NY man is accused of buying more than $65,000 in liquor with stolen credit cards across 21 Pennsylvania counties, Attorney General Dave Sunday announced on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Eugene Antwi, 26, of Brooklyn, allegedly placed more than 200 online orders for expensive liquors using stolen credit and debit cards, according to the Attorney General’s Office. Investigators said he then picked up the orders at Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores statewide.
The scheme ran from August 2023 through September 2024 and involved falsified identities and multiple stolen financial accounts, authorities detailed. The investigation included a presentment from the 52nd Statewide Investigating Grand Jury.
Antwi is charged with felony identity theft, access device fraud, theft by deception, forgery, and related offenses. He was arrested this week in New York on an outstanding warrant and will be arraigned in Pennsylvania, officials said.
“This defendant went to great lengths to steal from unsuspecting Pennsylvanians and defraud the Liquor Control Board, which oversees legal purchases of alcohol in the Commonwealth,” Attorney General Sunday said. “Our Organized Retail Crime Section is committed to collaborating with partners like the Pennsylvania State Police to combat theft and fraud that raise the prices of goods for hardworking Pennsylvanians.”
The New York City Police Department assisted in Antwi’s arrest. Senior Deputy Attorney General Philip McCarthy and Deputy Attorney General Kelsey Ashworth are prosecuting the case.
