Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, the actor known for his roles in “The Last Emperor,” “The Man in the High Castle” and the “Mortal Kombat” films, died Thursday in Santa Barbara, California. He was 75.
Penny Vizcarra, Tagawa’s publicist, and Margie Weiner, his manager, confirmed his death and said the cause was complications from a stroke. Tagawa was with his family when he died, Vizcarra added.
Over a career that spanned more than three decades, Tagawa notched dozens of film and television credits. He got a break early in his career when he was cast in “The Last Emperor,” Bernardo Bertolucci’s Oscar-winning 1987 film.
“It was mind-boggling. You know, to suddenly be working with one of the top-10 directors in the world,” Tagawa told the A.V. Club in a 2015 interview.
