Tri-Cities residents around Petersburg woke up under a winter weather advisory issued by the the National Weather Service in Wakefield. The advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

The NWS said that additional snow accumulations could total up to an inch and a trace of ice due to freezing drizzle is also possible.

The advisory includes portions of central, east central, north central, south central, and southeast Virginia, including Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial Heights.

All Petersburg-area school systems decided Dec. 4 to give students and staff a snow day.
