BRAINERD — Winners in the annual Voice of Democracy speaking competition were honored recently in a ceremony at the Brainerd Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
This year’s theme was, “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”
The first place prize of $300 went to Mullen Bratney, a 10th grade student at Brainerd High School. His submission will compete at the district level, and if he places first there, his entry will go on to state and maybe national competition.
Coming in second for $250 was 11th grade student Samuel Fairchild from Aitkin. Third was Isabella Brinkman, a 12th grade student at Pillager. She took home a check for $200.
