INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana House has passed a bill to redraw Indiana's congressional districts , which now moves on to the Senate where it has faced more opposition.

The bill passed 57-41 . Twelve Republicans joined the Democrats in the chamber who voted against the bill. Two representatives were excused from the voting.

Among those who voted against redistricting from the Republican caucus were two members of Republican House Leadership, including State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-District 40), who helped draw the current map passed in 2021.

Only two Republicans spoke in favor of the bill Friday.

The bill's author, State Rep. Ben Smaltz (R-District 52), said nothing in the law prevents legislatures from redrawing the maps whenever they deemed appropriate, as long as the maps met constitut
