LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

A Louisville man convicted of killing a construction worker on the Watterson Expressway was sentenced to serve two life sentences.

Keyshaun Stewart was found guilty but mentally ill of murder and assault for the 2021 ambush.

Fred O’Bannon was killed and LMPD Sgt. Chris Lane was critically hurt.

Police said O'Bannon was sitting in his work truck along I-264 around 2:30 am on Nov. 19, when Stewart allegedly approached the truck and shot him.

Police said Stewart then turned the gun on Lane, shooting him in the face. Lane was able to chase Stewart down and shot him twice. Stewart was then taken into custody.

O’Bannon’s mother spoke in court Friday morning.
