DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - Middle Tennessee State University is offering its students and staff grief support after a professor was found dead this week.

In a shock to the university community, MTSU professor Ashleigh McKinzie was found dead with “apparent gunshot wounds” on Thursday, according to the District Attorney General for Tennessee’s 13th Judicial District.

“The Blue Raider community extends its sympathies to the family, friends, colleagues, and students of Dr. Ashleigh McKinzie, associate professor of sociology and valued member of the MTSU community since 2017, who passed away earlier today,” a post from MTSU said.
