A Virginia man on Friday made his first court appearance on charges that he planted a pair of pipe bombs outside the headquarters of the Republican and Democratic national parties in D.C. on the eve of a mob’s attack on U.S. Capitol.
Brian Cole Jr., 30, of Woodbridge, was ordered to remain in jail a day after his arrest on explosives charges. He did not enter a plea.

Cole confessed to the Jan. 5, 2021, act in interviews with investigators, three people familiar with the matter told NBC News. He told the FBI he believed conspiracy theories about the 2020 election , according to two people familiar with the matter who spoke with NBC News.
