After weeks of searching, Penn State has found its next head coach of the football program.

Penn State has reportedly hired Matt Campbell — a Stark County native, Perry High School and Mount Union graduate, and former head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones — to coach the Nittany Lions . Campbell was born in Massillon, Ohio.

He replaces James Franklin, who was relieved of his duties as coach in Happy Valley in the middle of the season after a disappointing start to what was supposed to be a promising season with national championship aspirations.

Campbell heads to Penn State after a well-regarded 10-year run with Iowa State . Despite typically operating a football program at a deficit on an annual basis, Campbell led the Cyclones to one of the best three-year runs in program history
