Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette was able to gauge the resistance to his plan to give Quebec a constitution on Thursday as consultations on the bill opened in parliamentary committee.

Even before the consultations began , more than 300 civil society organizations had gathered to demand the withdrawal of the project, some announcing their intention not to participate. Then, at the opening, the opposition parties took turns criticizing the minister’s project before he found solace in the remarks of the first groups, who were clearly in favor, called to testify.
