GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- The body of a man who went missing from the Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids was found Friday, Dec. 5 not far from the facility.

James Barcus, 78, was last seen leaving the campus on Thursday.

Police said he may experience issues with memory loss and dementia. When he left the facility, he was wearing an Army green jacket, blue jeans and a winter cap, but he left his cell phone and glasses at the vets’ home.

Because Barcus was a Navy veterans, members of the Michigan National Guard responded to help search for him.

Ann off-duty Grand Rapids firefighter, who also is part of the National Guard, found Barcus’ body in the 300 block of North Park Street on the west side of the Grand River.
