KENTWOOD, MI – The city of Kentwood is planning to demolish a partially-constructed home that has sat unfinished for 11 years.
City officials say the unfinished structure is now rotting and creates a safety hazard, resulting in complaints from neighbors.
The Kentwood City Commission approved the demolition and cleanup of the property at 5260 Settlers Pass SE on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The city is contracting Pride Property Services, LLC, to do the job for a cost not to exceed $27,170.
Jim Kirkwood, director of engineering and inspections, said the structure has been an “eyesore” in the neighborhood for years. He said the property owner began building the home in 2014 but later died, and the new owner, who received the project at auction, hasn’t completed construction.
