A critical piece to the nation's defense got a new leader.
Nearly 80 years ago, the United States Strategic Air Command was created to deter global enemies and promote peace among our allies.
For the past three years, Gen. Anthony Cotton was the leader of more than 41,000 military members and civilians, as the commander of USSTRATCOM.
"It has been an incredible honor to serve as your commander," Cotton said.
Friday morning, he handed over that title to Adm. Richard Correll, who served as his deputy commander.
"I couldn't have asked for a better deputy commander. Holy cow. You did so well that you're replacing me," Cotton said.
Correll is now responsible for one of 11 unified commands under the Department of War.
He called this new role an honor.
