COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division released the state’s crime statistics from 2024 on Friday in a report showing most major crimes decreased last year.
In the Lowcountry, no counties were included in the top five for the highest number of violent crimes or property crimes committed. Dillion, Orangeburg and Lee counties had the highest violent crime rates in 2024.
As a state, crime decreased significantly across the board last year.
The state’s violent crime rate decreased by 8.4%, which is the lowest it has been since 1995. South Carolina’s murder rate went down by almost 16% and sexual battery is at its lowest rate in comparison to the last 30 years.
