For the second time in a little over a year, New Jersey is under a drought warning
Gov. Phil Murphy and the state Department of Environmental Protection issued a drought warning on Friday, Dec. 5. This comes six months after New Jersey just ended a warning that lasted from November 2024 until June 2025.
The past summer and fall have been incredibly dry in the state. New Jersey had been under a drought watch since Oct. 1, the status right below a warning.
State government officials ask residents and businesses to preserve as much water as they can under these conditions. Some tips include only running a dishwasher and washing machine when they are full and to check pipes for leaks.
