MISSOURI (KFVS) - A Missouri lawmaker is hoping to put regulations on a substance nicknamed “gas station heroin.”

A drug called 7-hydroxymitragynine or 7-OH is a derivative of the plant kratom created by isolating compounds in the plant to make it more potent.

It’s available in gas stations and smoke shops across Missouri, but unregulated.

Kansas City Senator Maggie Nurrenbern hopes to change that with a bill that would ban the manufacturing and sale of many synthetically created or altered 7-OH and kratom drugs.

The bill would ban the sale of 7-OH or kratom products to anyone under 21 - and prohibit any sales of any products that are synthetically altered to contain higher levels of 7-OH than what is natural.
