AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - As Augusta commissioners remain deadlocked on a $21 million budget shortfall, families, tourists and artists across the city could soon feel the impact.
Programs that help abused children, tours that bring visitors to the canal, and grants that support local artists are among Augusta’s services that could face cuts.
The people running them say the loss will be felt quickly.
Russell Gambill, executive director of the Augusta Canal Authority, said his organization has already made significant cuts.
“We’ve already cut 70% of our overhead. Aalary employees ... I’ve cut that by 70%. We don’t have any way left to cut,” Gambill said. “So I probably have to lay off people like our boat captains, our tour guides, and I’m not sure if I did, I’d get ‘em back because the
